Getting the bills into your calendar

Add each bill with the day it is due, then press Download .ics. Open the file on your phone or computer, or import it in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook, and each bill becomes an all-day event that repeats every month, with a reminder at 9 am on the day or a few days before. Each housemate can import the same file. To change a bill later, edit it here, delete the old events and import the new file.

Bills due on the 29th, 30th or 31st

The calendar standard behind .ics files, RFC 5545, skips dates that do not exist, so a plain “every month on the 31st” rule would silently miss February, April, June, September and November. This tool writes those bills as “the last day of the month” (or the last of the 28th to 30th), so a bill due on the 31st lands on 28 February and 30 April instead of disappearing. The calendar on this page shows the same dates.

Sharing the cost

Set how many people split the bills to see each person's share of the month. Bills that are not split evenly are easier to track in the settle-up calculator, which also works out who pays whom.

Questions

Will the reminders work on my phone?

Reminders come from your calendar app once the file is imported. Most apps keep them; some shared or subscribed calendars ignore alarms, so check one bill after importing.

Does the calendar update by itself?

No. The .ics file is a one-off copy. When a bill changes, download a new file and replace the old events.

Are my bills stored anywhere?

Only in this browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded; the .ics file is made on your device.
